The society is an international, non-governmental, non-profit, scientific organisation founded in 2005 as the Asian Society of Zoo and Wildlife Medicine (ASZWM), supported by the Japanese Society of Zoo and Wildlife Medicine. The name of the society was changed to Asian Society of Conservation Medicine (ASCM) in 2014. ASCM established the Asian College of Conservation Medicine (ACCM) and its diploma system in 2012. ASCM is an associate member of the Asian Association of Veterinary School (AAVS) (2012) and the Federation of Asian Veterinary Associations (FAVA) (2014). In 2014, with the support of FAVA and the attendance of international specialists from various countries including the United States of America, the United Kingdom and Australia, the One Health educational workshop was started. ASCM has also been collaborating with the Wildlife Disease Association (WDA) for joint sessions since 2014. The society is appointed as a member of the Asian Board of Veterinary Specialists in the Asian Meeting of Animal Medical Specialties (AMAMS) (2015).
